Wedding + The Road
Shane and I really thought hard about what we wanted our wedding to look like. We both weren't overly excited about having a traditional wedding from the start and eloping just kind of seemed natural to us. We're getting married and for us, it's not all about the hoopla of what centerpieces we had, who was sitting next to who, not to mention the astronomical price tag of a modern wedding. We're simple, understated and off the beaten path.
As much as we wanted to run off into the bright lights of Vegas, it was also so important to us to have our closest family and friends celebrate this once in a lifetime event with us. But what was that going to look like? That, we were so unsure of. We dipped our toes into wedding planning and were just not excited about spending all that money on something we didn't even get to keep. We want to travel, explore and celebrate this journey (these INTJs are also not party people). Not to mention the fact that all we've ever heard about weddings is how the bride and groom didn't get to spend much time with anyone and hardly got to eat. We didn't want either of those things. We also didn't feel that we wanted to ask our family to travel from all over for a few hours of hellos + hugs + farewells. We wanted more.
We decided that a year long desinations wedding (yes, multiple destinations) would be totally different than any other wedding we'd ever seen. And, while representing our unique style, it would give us the opportunity to truly spend time with those we love. We'll be bringing our wedding attire along the way to capture special moments of our wedding around the world and sharing those here with you as well. We hope for you to join us, we're really looking forward to this adventure with you.
HOW IS THIS GONNA WORK?
If you're reading this you've probably received your Save A Date (invitations to follow). Although we'll technically be married before each of our gatherings (this was the hardest decision to make), we wanted to make sure that each gathering would be special, meaningful + full of love.
We're starting off in New River, AZ on March 24, 2018. Brandi's mom, Janet and D2 Rick will be hosting our Phoenix celebration at the Wrangler's Roost Stagecoach Stop. I hear there might be fried chicken and waffles.
This will be followed by our trip to Temple City, CA, June 9, 2018. We were so excited to be able to spend time with Brandi's Uncle Brian and Aunt Terry on their trip to AZ and they were so kind to host our California celebration with Brandi's dad, Mark. We've been dying for Mexican food and are going to indulge ourselves while celebrating.
Next, we're heading to North Country, Plattsburgh, NY on September 29, 2018. Hosted by Shane's dad, Robert and Grandpa Marvin + Grandma Mary. We'll be celebrating with a family BBQ in the gorgeous fall colors of the northeast, we can't wait!
Finally, Tokyo, Japan is calling our name in March 2019 where we'll celebrate with Shane's mom, Kaz and his grandmother + uncle. This will also be our one year anniversary + honeymoon and we couldn't think of a better way to spend it.
